The Colby defense was outstanding in the red zone, finishing 1st in the NESCAC and 2nd nationally. The Mules' special teams unit saw marked improvement as well in 2021, finishing 3rd in the conference in punt return defense, good for 35th nationally. In addition, Colby ranked 3rd in the NESCAC in punt return average, led by returner Will Nipon who finished 2nd in the conference and 20th nationally. Colby also advanced their kickoff coverage unit, and saw their ranking jump from 9th in 2019 (23.7 yds/ return) to finish 4th in the NESCAC (18.1 yds/ return) in 2022.

Kasabian arrived in 2019 after two years as the Defensive Coordinator at Maine Maritime Academy. While at MMA, Kasabian oversaw a unit that allowed the least PPG at MMA since 2005, and finished with their best total defense since 2011.  While at MMA, Kasabian mentored two-time First Team All-NEWMAC Linebacker Derek Breunig. In 2018, Breunig was selected to the New England Football Writers (NEFW) Division II/III All-Star Team, and firstyear Terrell Thomas was recognized as the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year.

Prior to a second stint at MMA (Intern in 2011), Kasabian served as the defensive backs coach at Norwich University. During his time at Norwich, Kasabian coached Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) First Team DB Austin Roberts.

He joined the Cadets after serving as the Defensive Coordinator at Curry College for two seasons. In Kasabian’s first season with Curry, the defensive unit finished first in total defense, pass defense, and 3rd Down defense.  Defensive End Parrish Rogers Reed was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected to the NEFW Division II/III All-Star Team. Under Kasabian’s tutelage, Linebacker Devin Williams was twice selected as First Team All-NEFC Defense (2014, 2015). In 2015, the Colonels finished #4 in total defense and were ranked #1 in pass defense.

Kasabian joined the Colonels after spending two seasons at Stonehill College, where he first served as the Secondary Coach, before being promoted to Special Teams Coordinator for the 2013 season. During the 2013 season, the Skyhawks claimed a share of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship for the first time in school history. The Skyhawks finished ranked 2ND in the Northeast 10 in both interceptions (16) and total takeaways (28), good for top-40 nationally in both categories. Stonehill special teams units excelled in 2013, finishing #1 in the NE-10 in net punting (#6 nationally); #1 in punt return defense (#9 nationally); and #2 in kickoff returns (#20 nationally). In 2012 in his first season with Stonehill, the Skyhawks led the NE-10 in interceptions with 15 (33rd in NCAA), and takeaways with 25 (#29 nationally).

Kasabian started his coaching career under Hall of Fame Coach Sandy Ruggles at North Middlesex Regional HS (MA).

A native of Tyngsboro, Mass. Kasabian earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Bridgewater State College in 2009, where he played Defensive Back, and was a member of the Bridgewater State team that racked up 30 victories in 40 games, winning both the 2005 and 2006 ECAC Northeast and North Atlantic Bowl games.
