Women's Ice Hockey Program Overview

The Colby Women’s Ice Hockey program started in 1975 and is one of the oldest women’s hockey programs in the nation. The team was a founding member of the ECAC Division I League. During the team’s tenure as a Division I team, it posted back-to-back tournament appearances in 1995-96 and 1996-97. The team also placed two players on the inaugural Women’s College Hockey All-American Team in 1998. Colby continues to play one of the toughest schedules in Division III hockey while competing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), one of the top competitive Division III conferences in the nation.

The Colby Ice Hockey teams compete in the Jack Kelley Rink at the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum. First used in October of 2020, the rink holds 1,796 spectators and The Cerepak-Knight Room overlooks the ice arena to provide a functional space for team meetings, film review, game day events and more.

The Mules are led by Head Coach Holley Tyng, the 2020 NESCAC Coach of the Year, who joined the program in 2016. In the 2022-23 season the team set a program record for most wins in a season with 18 victories followed by 17 wins in the 2023-24 season and 18 more in 2024-25. For the last four consecutive years, the Mules have reached the NESCAC Semifinals while earning a spot in three of the last four DIII NCAA Tournaments where they advanced to the quarterfinal round all three times. Over the course of its history the program has totaled seven All-American awards including two-time All-American, 2024 NESCAC Player of the Year, and 2022 NESCAC Rookie of the Year Meg Rittenhouse '24. Breanna Studley '26 is the most recent Colby Women's Ice Hockey All-American being named following the 2024-25 season. The team has also tallied 30 Conference awards in its history including 13 in just the past four seasons combined.
