BEFORE COLBY
Matt played football, basketball, and baseball at Rye Neck High School. He was a third team all-state defensive back and a three-time all-league selection in baseball. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was an AP Scholar. Garcia also earned the Principal's Sportsmanship Award, the Math Achievement Award, the Blue Ribbon Award for Leadership, and was on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
AT COLBY
Matt majors in Economics (Financial Markets) and minors in Mathematics. He is a Colby Cares About Kids mentor, a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Over the 2016 summer, he interned at Morrison & Foerster.
2017 baseball season highlights: Garcia played in 34 games for the Mules in his junior season, finishing first on the team in runs (17), second in RBI (14), third in hits (30), and putouts (105). He had a .259 batting average and 34 defensive assists. Garcia also made three appearances on the mound, making two starts. He had two strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Matt was on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team.
2016 baseball season highlights: Matt played in 32 games for the Mules in his sophomore season, finishing the year leading the team with seven steals (0 CS), and finished second on the team in batting average (.338), on-base percentage (.415), and slugging percentage (.488). He added 16 runs, 15 RBI, six doubles, and nine walks. Matt made seven appearances on the mound, making three starts, a record of 1-1, 15 innings pitched, and 12 strikeouts. Matt was on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team.
2015 baseball season highlights: Garcia made six appearances for the Mules on the mound, three of them starts. Matt finished the season with an ERA of 4.02 and compiled 15.2 innings pitched. Garcia led the team in holding opponents to a .211 batting average.
2014 football season highlights: Garcia saw time at defensive back and finished with three tackles and his first collegiate interception.
