Colby Lands 31st in Final Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Cleveland, Ohio - After finishing the fall season in 36th place and rising to 25th after the winter, more success from Colby's spring teams settled the Mules to the 31st spot overall in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings.

A first ever NCAA Tournament appearance from Softball and making it to the super regional round, a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance (15th overall) from Women's Lacrosse, and once again a stellar championship performance from Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field, including four top-10 results and six All-American awards, finished off a tie with the best overall standings for Colby in Director's Cup history which was the 2005-06 season.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today to measure an institution's success at the national level, with points awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. There are 429 colleges and universities registered with the NCAA at the Division III level.

"It's an honor to be recognized among the best DIII institutions in the country," said Amanda DeMartino, the Harold Alfond Director of Athletics.  "This has been a historic year for the Colby Mules marked by the success of our athletics teams. We are so proud of all of our coaches and students for their hard work, grit and determination to compete every day in all that they do.  We have outstanding leadership in our coaching staff and exceptionally talented students that are truly dedicated to representing Colby at the highest level, and finishing 31st in the Director's Cup is a direct reflection of that."

Colby ranks seventh in the NESCAC, following Tufts (2), Williams (5), Amherst (10), Middlebury (13), Wesleyan (20), and Bowdoin (24). All 11 NESCAC schools rank inside the top-100, and Washington University in St. Louis became just the eighth different institution to take home the Learfield Director's Cup this year.
