Colby Women’s Lacrosse Outlasts Bowdoin in Thrilling CBB Rivalry Victory

WATERVILLE, Maine – In a high-octane battle of Maine rivals, the Colby College Women's Lacrosse team showed high resilience on Wednesday night, holding off a late surge from Bowdoin College to secure a gritty 13-12 victory at Bill Alfond Field. The Mules utilized a dominant first-half performance and a clutch fourth-quarter response to earn the critical NESCAC win.

Key Highlights:

  • Counihan's Hat Trick: Sophomore Emily Counihan led the scoring charge for the Mules, recording a hat trick. Her three goals were perfectly timed, including a crucial tally in the fourth quarter that helped Colby regain their lead.

  • Kapalka's Five-Point Masterclass: Freshman Corinne Kapalka was the offensive engine for Colby, finishing with a game-high five points (2 goals, 3 assists). Her vision in transition and efficiency in the attacking third set the tone for the Mules.

  • Clutch Fourth-Quarter Response: After Bowdoin rallied to take the lead in the third quarter, Colby displayed incredible mental toughness, opening the final frame with a 4-0 run. Goals from Counihan, Charlotte Michener, Avery Del Col, and Julia Maimonis reclaimed the momentum for the Mules.

  • Uva Dominates the Circle: Junior Gisele Uva was instrumental in Colby's possession game, winning a game-high 9 draw controls. Her dominance at the center circle ensured the Mules won the draw battle 16-11, providing vital extra possessions.

  • Balanced Offensive Attack: Eight different Mules found the back of the net, showcasing the depth and versatility of the Colby roster. Ainsley Burke and Charlotte Michener each contributed two goals and an assist in the win.

  • Hall Stands Tall: Goalkeeper Brynna Hall recorded 9 saves, including several highlight-reel stops during the first half to help Colby build an early 8-4 lead.

The Mules came out firing, jumping to an 8-2 lead midway through the second quarter. While the Polar Bears fought back to tie the game in the third, Colby's veteran leadership took over in the fourth. Ainsley Burke's "woman-up" goal with under three minutes remaining proved to be the decisive score, allowing the Mules to weather a late Bowdoin push.

The victory improves Colby's record to 7-4 overall (3-4 NESCAC) and provides significant momentum as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.

Final Score:
Bowdoin: 12
Colby: 13
