Mules Push Williams in Narrow Regular Season Finale

Waterville, ME – The Colby College women's tennis team concluded its regular season on Sunday, pushing nationally ranked Williams College to the brink in a narrow 4-3 loss at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts. In a match that came down to the final set on the court, the Mules displayed incredible resilience against the Ephs as they head into postseason play.

Williams secured the doubles point to open the day, though the Mules fought through several close sets. At the No. 2 position, Soumya Wijesekera and Kat Lowy battled to a 7-5 finish before falling. Ella Novion and Jade Finestone also pushed their opponents at No. 3, ultimately dropping a 7-6 decision. Michaela Landry and Isabella Suk fell 6-3 at the top flight.

Singles play was a highlight for Colby, as the team split the six matches with Williams. Jade Finestone delivered a dominant performance at the No. 1 spot, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Soumya Wijesekera also earned a straight-set victory at No. 4, winning 6-4, 6-4. Tina Barrow added a third point for the Mules at the No. 5 position with a clinical 6-2, 6-4 win.

The overall match victory came down to the No. 3 singles flight. Michaela Landry won the opening set 6-2, but Williams' Julia Zhang rallied to take the second 6-3 and a tight third set 6-4 to clinch the deciding point for the Ephs. Elsewhere in the lineup, Ella Novion fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, and Isabella Suk dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the No. 6 spot.

Colby finishes the regular season with a 7-10 overall record. The Mules will now travel to Middlebury College next week for the NESCAC tournament, where they are scheduled to face Wesleyan University on Friday.
