Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Baseball team used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant start on the mound to secure a 9-4 victory over Husson University on Wednesday afternoon for their final non-conference match up of the 2026 season.
The Mules wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. After
Myles Gythfeldt and
Patrick Shrake reached base,
Will Burns drove them both in with a two-out single to right field, giving Colby an early 2-0 lead.
Colby broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating four runs to extend the cushion to 6-0. Shrake sparked the rally with an RBI single that scored
Duncan Cullinane. Moments later, a Husson error allowed two more runs to cross the plate before Gythfeldt scored on a passed ball to cap the big frame.
Husson attempted a comeback in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on three hits to cut the lead to 6-4. However, the Mules' bullpen slammed the door from there, allowing no further runs for the remainder of the contest.
The Mules added insurance in the later innings. In the sixth, Gythfeldt singled to center to drive home
Henry Silva. In the seventh, Silva delivered the final blow with a two-run single to left field that scored both
Jeb Burkhart and Cullinane.
Sam Lowenstein earned the win on the mound, pitching effectively to improve his record to 2-1 on the season. Offensively, the Mules were led by Silva and Burns, who combined for four RBIs, while Gythfeldt and Shrake each reached base multiple times to set the table for the victory.
Colby is back in action at home on Friday at 4pm as they open up their final NESCAC series against Bowdoin before they start their playoff stint.
