Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Colby Records Season-High Scoring Total in 28-7 Win Over Mariners

Castine, Maine - The Colby Men's Lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on the road on Tuesday evening, overwhelming Maine Maritime Academy with a 28-7 victory. The Mules' offense was firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle, while the defense and face-off unit ensured Colby maintained control throughout the contest.

The Mules set the tone early in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Easton Bello, Jacob Thibodeau, and Eli Chilicki. However, it was the second quarter where Colby broke the game open. The Mules exploded for 11 goals in the period, highlighted by strikes from Thacher McCoy, Daniel O'Connor, and Joey Hagerty. By halftime, Colby held a commanding 14-2 lead.

Will Steele led the scoring effort with five points on four goals and an assist, while Matias Williams also found the back of the net four times. McCoy and Thibodeau were equally clinical, each contributing a hat trick to the offensive onslaught. In total, 15 different Mules recorded a goal, showcasing the depth of the roster.

The Mules were equally impressive in the transition and possession games. Colby dominated the face-off X, winning 26 of 38 draws. JT O'Neil and Kyle Skop were instrumental in this effort, winning eight and seven face-offs respectively. This possession advantage allowed the Mules to out shoot the Mariners 74-24 and collect 64 ground balls compared to just 27 for Maine Maritime.

Defensively, Colby was stout. Will Heisler started in net and made four saves in the first half to earn the win, while Zachary Parks took over in the second half to anchor the back line. Quinton Delorey and Macon Burgess led the defensive pressure, combining for four caused turnovers and eight ground balls.

Despite a brief scoring run by the Mariners in the third quarter, Colby closed the door in the final frame with another 11-goal period. Late goals from Oliver Aaron, Anthony Long, Luke Lombardo, and a final strike from Williams capped off the most prolific scoring output of the season for the Mules.

Colby returns to NESCAC play this Saturday as they travel to Amherst College.
