Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mules Fall to #18 Tufts

Medford, MA – The Colby College women's tennis team traveled to face Tufts University on Saturday, falling 6-1 in a highly competitive NESCAC matchup. Despite the final score, the match was characterized by several marathon battles that saw the Mules push the Jumbos deep into three-set contests.

Tufts gained the early advantage by securing the doubles point. The Jumbos took the No. 1 flight 6-0 and the No. 2 flight 6-2. However, Colby responded with a strong performance at the No. 3 spot, where Jade Finestone and Ella Novion earned a 6-4 victory over Woodbury and Kintiroglou.

In singles play, Jade Finestone provided a standout performance at the No. 1 position. Facing Lucy Mitchell, Finestone rallied from a first-set deficit to win 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9), securing a hard-fought point for the team. Two other matches also required deciding third-set tiebreakers to determine a winner. Soumya Wijesekera battled back after a tough first set to take the second at the No. 4 flight, ultimately falling in a tight 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (7-10) finish. Isabella Suk pushed her match to the limit at the No. 6 position, forcing a tiebreaker before falling 1-6, 7-5, 0-1 (3-10). Tina Barrow delivered a competitive performance at the No. 5 spot, falling in a straight-set 5-7, 1-6 decision. At the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, Ella Novion and Michaela Landry were also defeated in straight sets. With the result, Colby moves to 6-7 overall on the season with a 2-4 mark in NESCAC play.

The Mules look to bounce back tomorrow, April 19, as they travel to Hartford, Connecticut, for another conference matchup against Trinity College.
