Box Score Waterville, ME – The Colby College women's tennis team honored its graduating class in style Sunday, securing a 6-1 NESCAC victory over Connecticut College at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts. The day served as a special tribute to seniors Amelie Gal and Isabella Suk, celebrating their four-year commitment to the program and their two years of leadership as team captains.
The celebration began on the doubles courts, where Colby swept all three flights to take an early 1-0 lead. Michaela Landry and senior captain Isabella Suk led the way at the No. 1 spot with a decisive 6-0 shutout. The No. 2 duo of Kat Lowy and Waka Aida remained sharp with a 6-2 win, while Ella Novion and Jade Finestone secured the No. 3 flight with a 6-4 victory.
Colby's momentum carried into singles play, where the team won five of the six matches in straight sets. The top of the lineup was particularly efficient, as Jade Finestone (No. 1), Ella Novion (No. 2), and Michaela Landry (No. 3) all dropped four games or fewer in their respective wins. Soumya Wijesekera added a clinical 6-2, 6-0 performance at the No. 4 spot, while Waka Aida capped the scoring with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6. At the No. 5 position, Tina Barrow narrowly dropped a 5-7 set before being forced to retire.
The victory provided a fitting home finale for Gal and Suk, whose leadership has been a cornerstone of the team's culture over the past two seasons. With this conference win, Colby continues to solidify its position as they head into the final stretch of the spring schedule.
