Women's Basketball Falls to Bowdoin in Final Minutes

Waterville, Maine- The Colby Women's Basketball team came up short against the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College 61-59. Colby's record is now 11-6 and 2-2 in the NESCAC and Bowdoin is 15-1 and 4-0 in the conference. 

The teams were neck and neck all game with the highest lead being only seven points. The Mules started off trailing, but picked up the pace in the second quarter dropping 19 points and outscoring the Polar Bears by six. In the final quarter both teams scored 14 points but unfortunately Colby was not able to sustain the comeback. The Mules hit the boards today with 41 rebounds. This was led by Kate Olenik and Talia Thompson with eight each. While close to the basket, Colby was able to throw up 30 points in the paint. 

Olenik was no friend to the Polar Bears, hitting team high 24 points and grabbing two steals in addition to her assist. Amelia Hanscom led the team in both steals, with three, and assists with four while also scoring 14 points for herself. Lydia Mordarski dropped 14 too and added an assist and seven rebounds. Thompson and Caroline Hartley had sharp defensive skills with a steal for each and Hartley's two rebounds. Chelsea Ibenegbu contributed two rebounds and five points and both Shea Donnelly and Brooke Braen captured two rebounds as well. 

The Mules are back on Mayflower Hill for another NESCAC matchup on January 30 against Amherst College.
