New London, Conn. - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced Connecticut College for the second day in a row and delivered another strong performance, earning a 3-0 victory after 60 minutes of play. The win improves the Mules' overall record to 10-2-0.
Despite a scoreless opening period, Colby controlled much of the action. The Mules totaled 11 shots and earned a power-play opportunity, while goaltender
Ally Martiniello made eight saves to keep the Camels off the board. Colby broke through in the second period after killing off a Connecticut College power play. At 9:26,
Lulu Gray put the Mules on the board, scoring with assists from
Mallory Farrell and
Jo Tattersall. Colby continued to press offensively, finishing the period with 18 shots, nine faceoff wins, and three more saves from Martiniello. Entering the third period with intensity, the Mules kept their energy high. Just 2:17 in,
Megan Martodam extended the lead with a goal assisted by
Sophia Kennedy. Colby earned another power-play opportunity late in the period, and at 18:54,
Maria Pierce capitalized to make it a 3-0 game. The Mules' offense and defense remained strong through the final minutes. Colby finished with 46 total shots, while Martiniello secured the shutout with 13 saves.
The Mules will return to NESCAC play next Friday night when they host Williams College.
