Colby Falls to Trinity 3-2 in Overtime

Waterville, Maine. - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the Bantams of Trinity College on Saturday afternoon. Colby took a 2-0 lead to start the game, but Trinity put up a fight and scored three unanswered goals, finishing the game in overtime. The Mules now stand 8-5-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the NESCAC, ranked third.

In the first period, the Mules out shot the Bantams 11 to eight, while also finding the back of the net first, as junior Dhillon Wilde . Keeping their momentum from the first, senior Max Abene extended Colby's lead to 2-1 with a goal at 3:35 in the second, assisted by Jayden Grier and Matthew Macdonald.

Trinity came out strong to start the third period, scoring two goals in less than six minutes, tying the game at 2-2. While both teams fought to end the game in 60 minutes, Trinity recorded 19 shots on goal over Colby's 13 in the final period, but neither team was able to capitalize. As the Mules entered their second overtime game of the weekend, both teams had ample opportunities to put the game away. The Bantams scored, with one minute to play in the five-minute period, finishing with a 3-2 win over the Mules. Sophomore Cooper Rautenstrauch tallied 38 saves through 64 minutes.

The Mules play again Friday evening at Williams at 7pm for their second match up of the season.
