Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Field Hockey team played their first game of the 2025 season against the Bowdoin Polar Bears at home on Saturday. Colby and Bowdoin played a close game for 60 minutes, but their opponent ended up on top with a 3-2 win. The Mules now stand 0-1 overall in the NESCAC conference.
Colby started off the first quarter down 1-0 after goal from Bowdoin in the first five minutes of play. The Mules remained down by one for the rest of the first half, earning seven penalty corners and 15 shots compared to Bowdoin's six penalty corners and 14 shots. Both teams came out strong for the second half of the game, and Colby looking for for their first goal of the season. Sophomore
Christina Sweeney tied the game at 1-1 with five minutes to play in the third quarter, tallying her first of the season. The Polar Bears fought back and pushed ahead 3-1 with two goals in the fourth quarter, one off of a penalty stroke against the Mules. Fighting to tie close Bowdoin's lead, senior

Molly Mitchell, making it a one goal game with 5 minutes to play. The Polar Bears dominated for the remaining minutes of the game and Colby was unable to tie it up. Sophomore
Opal O'Rourke recorded two saves in the first quarter and first-year
Ginna Jacoby recorded nine saves for the remaining quarter of the game.
Colby is back in action on Tuesday at University of New England at 6pm.
