Mules Show Grit Despite Road Loss at Williams

Williamstown, Mass. - Colby (1-1) fell 38–0 on Saturday to Williams (2-0), a result owed largely to the Ephs' explosive ground game. The Mules, however, showed grit and organization, stringing together a 16-play first quarter drive, a goal-line takeaway, and creating field position on special teams against a strong opponent.

Williams scored on its second drive of the day with a 71 yard quarterback run to take a 7–0 lead. Colby responded with its best drives of the day, starting at the 25 with 9:10 left in the first. The Mules created momentum through throws to Cormac Wright and inside runs from Antone Moreis to move 54 yards, reaching the Williams 21 before being stopped on fourth and one. The Ephs capitalized on short fields in the second quarter converting a fumble into points and adding another touchdown to make it 17–0. Near the end of the half with Williams threatening inside the 10, safety Ameer White intercepted a pass in the end zone at 2:54, keeping the deficit at three scores. Special teams' Olasubomi Soyoye's 33-yard kickoff return to the Colby 40 set up a short field earlier in the quarter.

The Ephs finished with 415 yards of offense, leaning on quarterback Owen Johansen (223 rushing yards, three touchdowns) and a balanced backfield. Colby's defense battled through the final whistle, with Drew Ramos, Nicholas Cox, Aiden Kelley, and Jack Mullen around the ball throughout, including a pressure that forced an intentional grounding call.

Offensively, Colby moved the chains in spurts with Miles Drake connecting on intermediate routes to Jack Nye (20 yards long), Henry Emswiler, Ray Thornton, and Sean Trinder. Antone Moreis paced the ground game (9 carries 20 yards), Corey Aubuchon added a 16-yard burst, and Owen Haight's 32-yard keeper keyed field position early in the second quarter. Colby totaled 136 yards (85 passing, 51 rushing).

Colby returns to Mayflower Hill next Saturday to take on Middlebury(1-1).
