Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer team is set to kickoff the 2025 schedule on Saturday, September 6th hosting Bowdoin College. Last year the Mules upset the 14th ranked Polar Bears in a 1-0 contest (first win against Bowdoin since 2009 despite numerous draws) with the goal coming from
Samantha DeWitt in the 12th minute of play. Colby heads into the 2025 season ranked 15th according to the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, the second best NESCAC team behind Amherst ranked sixth.
The team is coming off an historic run from last season which encompassed the teams first trip to the NESCAC Championship game and first NCAA Tournament selection since 1999 making it to the sweet sixteen. They also totaled 13 wins, the most ever in program history (previous record of 10). The Mules, only losing three players to graduation this past spring and will look to make yet another standout postseason run under Head Coach
Seth Benjamin and a new senior class consisting of six student-athletes;
Sophie DiGrande,
Murphy Leung,
Jane Maguire,
MK Marshall,
Fati Salifu, and
Kylie Thorp. They are joined by nine first-years who will look to make an impact from the jump.
"We are so excited to have the players back on campus!" said Benjamin. "We just completed a great pre-season and the team is looking forward to opening the season at home this weekend. Our returning group looks fantastic and our first year players have come in and done really well!"
Benjamin's full 2024 region one coaching staff of the year returns for the 2025 season including
Chad Sisson and
Kaylyn Krul who both joined the program last season as well.
Yuri Nascimento returns to both the men's and women's program as the goalie coach for his third season after coaching at UMaine in 2024.
Saturday's midday contest is set for a 12:00pm kickoff on Mark R. Serdjenian Field. Fans can follow alongside the action using the
