Summer Spotlight: Emma Greene, Women's Lacrosse

Greene, Emma at workWaterville, Maine - Welcome to Colby Athletics' summer spotlight series, where we take a look into what Colby student-athletes are working on over the summer break. Up next we have rising senior Emma Greene of Colby Women's Lacrosse.

This summer Emma has been an AGI intern at Ansys, an aerospace/defense software company. She works with simulation products like STK and ODTK. STK is a software that helps model, analyze, and visualize systems and missions involving satellites, aircrafts, communications (transmit/receivers), missiles, and planets. ODTK is an orbital determination software that helps estimate orbits of space objects using statistical filtering techniques. Emma's job is to master these programs and help others use it. She has been learning a lot about orbital mechanics and mission planning-- "it is so awesome to be immersed in that world." Emma even got to collaborate with people from NASA, Lockheed Martin, and other reputable companies, helping them accomplish their goals with STK.

"My favorite thing about working with Ansys is the community," said Greene. "Everyone is so willing to help me grow and learn, and in a super casual and approachable way. We even have nerf guns and a basketball hoop in the office that people play with throughout the day. I am applying a lot of the skills Colby has given me, and growing and learning along the way."

Be on the lookout for more of our summer spotlight series.
