Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Tennis team took the courts at home Saturday afternoon against #3 ranked Tufts University. The match was held inside the Harold Alfond Athletic Center due to rain.
With Colby's Cohen being out due to illness, the Mules had to change up two of their three doubles teams, proving to be difficult against the Jumbos. Tufts took the doubles point, sweeping all three courts 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, respectively.Â
In singles play, first-year
Jason Daly showed great poise moving up to the #1 spot against a top player in the nation. He outplayed his Tufts opponent early on before the Jumbo raised his level, ultimately winning 6-4, 6-2. First-year
Marco Ziets-Segura also had a great performance, moving up to the #3 spot and stepping up. Ziets-Segura matched the high level of his Tufts opponent, staying neck-and-neck with the Jumbo throughout the first set, before unfortunately falling 7-6(6). The second set was also back-and-forth, with both players breaking serve multiple times. In the end, the Jumbo was just a bit better than the Mule in big moments, edging Ziets-Segura out 7-6(6), 6-4 to secure a 7-0 dual match win for #3 nationally-ranked Tufts.
Colby will look to bounce back Sunday afternoon against Bates College. The match has big implications for the Mules, as a win secures a NESCAC postseason appearance and will also take place on Senior Day.Â
