Men's Crew Edges Out Marietta, WPI, and Ithaca

Worcester, Mass. - On Saturday the Men's Crew team competed against Trinity, WPI, Marietta, and Ithaca at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Mules had three varsity 8 boats and a varsity 4 boat competing on the men's side with conditions in the 60's, overcast and blustery with a moderate cross headwind. Following last weekend's weather cancellation the Mules were itching to race and saw the Men's Crew edge out multiple nationally ranked division III opponents, including Marietta college who they were tied with for 6th in the standings entering the weekend.

The men's first Varsity Eight boat of: Curtis Adams-Beyea '28; Ian Ucko '28; Jack Childress '26; Charlie Anderson '25; Dallas Watson '28; Andy Li '28; Danny Sullivan '26; Robbie Trowbridge '28; Jackson Harrington '28 rowed their way to 2nd place only behind Trinity who is the top ranked division III program in the country prior to the event. Despite knowing that they hadn't rowed their best race, they still put up a strong showing against Marietta, WPI, and Ithaca. Which is certainly confidence inspiring for this crew to know that while they have more potential to tap into, that they're still performing well.

The Mules second Varsity Eight boat was rowed by: Alyssa West '25; Jed Swan '28; Cole Christensen '27; Theo Grossman '27; Brendan Barrett '27; Jack Weinberg '26; Nolan Roche '28; Ian Zhou '28; Jack AbuHaider '27. They ended up 3rd in their race with a very strong start in the first 1000m, keeping their boat even with the lead crews. As the race progressed and conditions got worse they dropped off the pace in the last 750m.

Colby's third Varsity Eight crew consisted of: Nathan Dunn '27; Charlie Pantelick '27; Joshua Bradshaw '28; Sumner Groves '28; Henry Evans '28; Theo Ornstein '28; Augi Booth '28; Elliot Do '25; Bennett Jones '27. The conditions continued to get more challenging as the day progressed, as a result this crew dug themselves into a huge hole with a bad start. As the race continued on they were able to row through all the boats except for Trinity. This young third varsity 8+ showed very good toughness and resiliency on the day.

The final Men's crew to row was the Varsity Four of: Caroline Batchelder '28; Dan Steber '27; Tyler Merritt '28; Doug DeNatale '28; Sam Mulcahy '28. They ended up third and were the last race of the morning which saw the most challenging conditions and gave this crew trouble.

The Mules Crew looks forward to their next race this Sunday the 27th on the Androscoggin river in Greene, Maine for the Presidents Cup vs. Bates and Bowdoin.
