Mules Fall to Middlebury in NESCAC Semifinals

Amherst, Mass. – The #3 seed Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Amherst, Massachusetts to face the #2 seed Middlebury College Panthers in the NESCAC semifinal. After 60 minutes of determined play, Colby fell 3-0 to the Panthers.

Colby hit the ice with high energy as they entered this exciting semifinal matchup. Although the first period ended scoreless, the Mules showcased strong offense, winning seven of 13 faceoffs and firing six shots on goal. The Panthers ramped up the pressure, but goaltender Mandy Busky made 11 key saves to keep the game tight. Entering the second period tied 0-0, both Colby and Middlebury were eager for a breakthrough. After more back-and-forth play, Middlebury took the lead with 9:33 remaining in the period. Staying strong, the Mules responded by generating a total of 21 shots, with Busky adding five more crucial saves. With 20 minutes remaining, Colby came out strong in the third period, killing off a Middlebury power play right from the start. The Mules displayed determination with 10 more shots on goal, 10 faceoff wins, and 11 additional saves from Busky. Despite their resilience, the Mules fell 3-0. Busky finished with an impressive 27 saves, while Breanna Studley led in shots on goal with nine over the three periods.

This concludes the Mules' run in the NESCAC playoffs for the 2024-2025 season. Despite the tough loss, Colby demonstrated the resilience needed to challenge the best in Division III ranked Women's Ice Hockey team.
