CLERMONT, Fla. - The Colby College softball team played to a doubleheader split to close out its final day at THE Spring Games, as it fell to Luther College, 11-2, in five innings in game one and defeated Oberlin College, 11-2, in six innings in game two.
GAME 1: Luther 11, Colby 2 (5 Innings)
Luther (14-8) claimed a 6-0 lead in the top of the first and the Mules responded with two runs on an RBI fielder's choice by junior
Victoria Ramirez and a passed ball in the bottom of the first.
As it played out, Colby (6-6) was unable to score for the remainder of the game while the Norse offense exploded for five additional runs, including four in the second inning.
Sophomore
Ashley Correll (1-3) took the circle to start the first game of the day and suffered the loss after allowing 10 runs (five earned) off nine hits in 1.1 innings of work. Freshman
Sophia Meade gave up one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Junior
Emma Burnham went 2-2 with a double, a walk and scored once against Luther while junior
Kathryne Clay, freshman
Avery Lyman, Ramirez and sophomore
Juliana Kiley each had a hit apiece in the setback.
GAME 2: Colby 11, Oberlin 2 (6 Innings)
The Mules held a 1-0 lead after sophomore
Ella Wilcox singled home a run in the top of the first before Oberlin (2-14) tied the game 1-1 with a solo home run to left field in the bottom half of the first.
Colby reclaimed the lead with four runs off three hits and two Yeowomen errors in the top of the third, when Burnham led off the inning with a solo home run left field and Wilcox delivered a two-run single before scoring on an Oberlin miscue to give the Mules a 5-1 edge.
In the fourth inning, the Mules added two more runs onto their total when junior
Carissa Cassidy plated Burnham and senior
Erika MacLeod off a single before adding four more runs in the sixth to cap off their scoring for the game.
Oberlin scored the final run of the game off an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth game.
Junior
KC DeSarno (2-3) picked up her second win of the season after allowing two earned runs off five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
Cassidy was 4-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Wilcox went 3-4 with a run scored, a double and four RBI.
The Mules return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Husson University for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
