CLERMONT, Fla. – The Colby College softball team recorded a second-consecutive doubleheader split on Monday, falling to Manchester University, 9-1 in five innings in the morning, before defeating the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, 4-1, to finish the day.
Game 1: Manchester 9, Colby 1 (5 Innings)
Manchester (6-4) scored two runs on a hit, a walk, and a passed ball in the top of the first and never looked back, plating at least one run in the final three innings after a scoreless second to pick up the mercy-rule win.
Colby (5-3) scored their lone run in the fourth when senior
Katelyn Hays doubled to left field with two outs and freshman
Julia Berry, who pinched run for Hays, later raced home on a senior
Erika MacLeod base hit.
Carissa Cassidy had two hits in three at-bats while junior

Avery Lyman, Hays and MacLeod each recorded a hit in the setback.

Ashley Correll (1-2) suffered loss in the circle after allowing seven runs (two earned) off six hits with one strikeout. Junior
KC DeSarno pitched 1.2 innings in relief, yielding two runs (one earned) off four hits with two punch outs.
Game 2: Colby 4, UW-Platteville 1
The Mules kicked off the scoring with a run off three hits, when Burnham doubled to left field and later scored on a sophomore
Ella Wilcox single to left field.
The University of Wisconsin at Platteville (8-2) scored the tying run in the third off a sac bunt, but the Mules took back their one-run lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by MacLeod.
Colby added two more insurance runs in the seventh on a double by DeSimone and a Pioneers' miscue.

Kathryne Clay (2-1) earned her second win of the season in the circle, striking out one, and allowing four hits and one earned run in five innings pitched. Freshman
Sophia Meade pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit.

Victoria Ramirez and junior
Kelsey Sullivan each finished the game with two hits apiece, while Burnham, DeSimone, Ramirez and Sullivan all recorded a double in the victory.
The Mules return to action on Thursday in Clermont when they face Willamette University at 10:15 a.m. and University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh at 12:30 p.m.
