New London, CT - The Colby Men's Tennis team played their first NESCAC match of the 2024-25 season, taking on Connecticut College away from home.
In doubles play, senior captain Jake Cohen and first-year Marco Ziets-Segura started out strong, defeating their Conn opponents 6-2 at the #1 position. The Camels then won a pair of 7-5 matches at the #2 and #3 spots, taking the doubles point.
Colby responded strong to start out singles play. First-year Jason Daly prevailed in dominant fashion, topping his Conn opponent at the #2 position 6-0, 6-1. Following Daly's win, Cohen added to the Mules' momentum, clinching his match 6-2, 6-4 at the #1 spot. After the Camels won at the #3 spot in a tight three-setter, the dual match was tied at 2-2 heading into the final three singles matches. The Camels went on to win all three matches, winning the match 5-2 overall. Of the three matches, senior captain Josh Kaplan had the closest, falling in a ten-point match tiebreaker after battling back, ultimately losing 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (7).
The Mules will look to bounce back tomorrow morning against Skidmore College. The match will be hosted at a neutral site at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, CT.
