Waterville, Maine. - The Mules pulled off an overtime win tonight against Middlebury College, defeating the Panthers 75-72. Colby is now 6-2 in NESCAC, 12-9 overall.
Colby had a shaky start against Midd, pushing hard but coming up four points short and allowing the Panthers to finish the first quarter 14-10. Colby would rally in the second quarter, though, one-upping Middlebury's four point lead in the first with a five point lead in the second. The Mules led 30-29 at the half. Both teams would push equally hard to kick off the second half, matching each other point for point and hitting 43-42 heading into the fourth but certainly not final quarter. It was Middlebury's turn to one-up the Mules in the fourth quarter, out-pacing them by a single point and tying the score at the end of the fourth quarter 63 all. On to overtime the Mules and Panthers went, with the most intense offensive push of the game. Colby managed to edge out Middlebury by three points, securing a 75-72 win.
The Mules had a well-rounded offensive performance with not one, not two, not three, but a whopping four players securing at or over 14 points apiece. Led by
Ana Von Rumohr with 19, followed closely by
Amelia Hanscom with 18, then
Kate Olenik with 15, and
Lydia Mordarski with 14, Colby took full advantage of their lineup. Additionally, three players racked up nine rebounds apiece: Hanscom, Olenik, and Mordarski. Hanscom also accumulated two steals, with Olenik, Mordarski,
Chelsea Ibenegbu, and
Lili Nagy each also contributing a steal.
The Mules next face off against Trinity Friday, February 15, at 7 pm in Middletown, CT.
