Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team will open their 2025 campaign this coming Saturday as they host Wesleyan University at 12:00pm. The Mules enter the season ranked 7th in the
latest IWLCA Division III poll, while the Cardinals enter right behind in 8th. Middlebury (1st) and Tufts (2nd) are the only other NESCAC institutions to rank in the top-10.
"We're thrilled for the upcoming season and can't wait for our first game this weekend," said Colby Head Coach
Karen Henning, who reached career win number 300 last season. "We have a strong group of returning players leading both on and off the field. Our defense is in great shape, with four returning starters and plenty of depth that we are eager to tap into this season. In the midfield, we have several true two-way players who are ready to give it their all. Our offense has a new look this year, and we're excited to see how the group gels as the season unfolds. With a larger roster, everyone is united toward the same goal—ready to face any challenges and work together as a team."
Two of the returning players Henning refers to are
Julia Jardina and
Kat Munter. The duo both earned IWLCA Division III All-American honors a season ago, as well as CSC National Academic All-American status. Jardina sat right behind graduated senior Ali Franz with 48 goals in 2024, and her return with 11 other seniors will undoubtedly give this roster incredible experience and leadership. As far as youth, sophomore
Tate Ban returns as the team's leader in assists from a year ago, and junior
Emily Darby joins Ban, Jardina, and Munter as four returners who started all 20 games in 2024. Add in a first-year class of 10 athletes from across the nation (California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio, Washington), this squad is poised to make its mark in 2025.
