Women's Basketball Enters Conference Tournament as the Two Seed

Waterville, Maine - Following a strong regular season including a 7-3 conference record, Colby Women's Basketball has earned the second seed in the NESCAC tournament matching their highest ranking since owning the same spot in 2011. This ties the 2001 and 2011 teams for the most conference wins in a regular season since NESCAC play began in 2001.

To start the tournament, the Mules will host the seventh seeded Middlebury Panthers. The two teams recently faced off during the regular season for Colby's last home game on Feburary 8th resulting in a overtime thriller won by the Mules 75-72. Colby had four scorers in the double figures; Ana Von Rumohr (19), Amelia Hanscom (18), Kate Olenik (15), and Lydia Mordarski (21) while all combining for 33 rebounds.

Saturday's rematch should be an entertaining one as it features the top two scorers in the conference. Middlebury's Alexa Mustafaj, who leads the league at 23.5 points per game and had 38 points in that overtime loss and Colby's own Kate Olenik, the 2023-24 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, who ranks second with 19.0 points per game. The Mules are 2-0 against the Panthers in NESCAC Tournament history as the teams last met in the 2017 quarterfinals, where the Colby posted a 48-39 win. This the third time in four years the Mules have qualified for the tournament.

The quarterfinal matchup is set for a 2:00pm start, February 22nd, right here on Mayflower Hill. Fans can follow alongside the action using the live stat and live video links as well as check out the NESCAC Championship Central page for more information. The winner will advanced to the championship weekend with the semifinal round on March 1st followed by the championship game on March 2nd. Both games will be played at the highest remaining seed of the four remaining semifinalist.
