Cambridge, Mass. - The #24 seeded Colby College Women's Soccer team faced #40 seeded Montclair State University (13-0-6) in the first round of the DIII NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. After an intense 90-minute battle, the Mules defeated the previously undefeated Red Hawks 2-0.

MK Marshall helped set the tone for Colby, as the first half featured lots of back-and-forth action. Montclair State came out with a strong offense, but Colby's defense held firm. With just over five minutes left in the first half, at 39:05,
Jane Maguire put the Mules on the board. Marshall made two key saves to keep the Red Hawks scoreless. Entering the second half up 1-0, the Mules continued to play with energy and composure, with
Sadie Gardner in goal. About 20 minutes into the half, Colby earned a corner kick taken by Maguire.
Amanda Schneider capitalized at 64:43, doubling the Mules' lead off an assist from
Abigail Jarvi. For the remainder of the half, Colby continued to show their strong skills and communication. Gardner made one key save to keep the Red Hawks from breaking through. Colby totaled 20 total shots and held strong defensively to secure the exciting 2-0 victory over the Red Hawks.
The Mules will face MIT tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the second round of the DIII NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
