The Colby Men's Squash team fought hard on the road, but fell short in a 9-0 loss to Columbia this afternoon.Â
Colby opened the season with several new faces in the lineup, as first-years
Hamza Wessam '29,Â
Omar Bastawy '29, and
Nevin Conroy '29 made their collegiate debuts. All three showed promise and grit against Columbia's nationally ranked squad, battling through tough rallies before ultimately falling short. At the top of the ladder, junior
Seif Ashraf '27 made his first appearance in the No. 1 position, putting up a determined effort despite a 3–0 loss. One of the day's longest contests came from
Sebastian Campos '26, who pushed his match to four games and secured Colby's lone game of the afternoon in a 45-minute showdown.
Youssef Mostafa '26 also kept his match tight, posting competitive 12–10 and 11–9 scores in the second and third games. Rounding out the lineup,
Carlos Zendejas '27,
Timo Radionov '28,
Aidan Corwin '28, and
Oliver Riordan '26 each began their seasons with strong, composed performances against some of the toughest competition they will face all year.
The Mules head to Boston next weekend to face MIT.
