Squash Hits the Road Saturday to Open 2025-26

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's and Women's Squash teams are off to Medford, Mass. Saturday, November 15th to open up the new season facing Columbia Univeristy hosted at Tufts. The last time the Mules and Lions faced each other was back in 2011.

Chris Abplanalp will lead Colby Squash once again, entering his eighth season with the Mules.

"We're building on real momentum," stated Abplanalp. "Last season we made a significant jump in the rankings, with both teams continuing to take meaningful steps forward. The lineup features a strong mix of returning experience alongside newcomers who are ready to contribute right away. This group shows up every day with genuine commitment and hunger to improve, eager to represent Colby at a high level. We've put together a challenging schedule this fall, and we're excited to compete."

The Women's team heads into the 2025-26 campaign ranked 17th after a 6-10 overall record from last season. Laavanya Kugan is the top returning women's player who totaled a 11-6 individual record last year including a dominant 10-3 record in the top spot for the Mules. The senior was the lone women's player from Colby last season to compete in CSA Individuals. Other top performers returning from last year include Abhisheka David '26 and Nathalie Sim '27. David totaled a 9-7 individual record last year playing primarily in the two spot with a 7-6 record. Sim had an impressive 7-2 last year including a 6-1 record at the three spot. A group of four seniors; David, Aileen Dominguez, Kugan and Amanda Miller will led the team this year while being joined by a group of four first-years.

The Men's team finished last year with a 12-8 overall record making it to the NESCAC semifinals for the second straight season and heads into the new season ranked 20th. Top returners for the Mules include Seif Ashraf '27, Youssef Mostafa '26 and Carlos Zendejas '27. Ashraf, playing primarily in the two spot last year, finished the season with a 13-7 overall record.
