Volleyball Moves to 3–1 in NESCAC with Victory over Amherst

WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby swept Amherst on Saturday afternoon at the Margaret M. Crook Center (25–13, 25–12, 25–21) to improve to 13–1 overall and 3–1 in the NESCAC and extend the Mules' winning streak to four. Colby controlled the match with a .245 team attack percentage while holding Amherst to -.009, pairing efficient side-out offense with eight service aces and a late-set blocking presence that closed each frame.

The Mules set the tone in the opening set with clean first-ball side outs and a disruptive serving run. Cyanne Jones landed consecutive aces to push the margin, and Gabby Grujic followed with back-to-back aces as Kendall Glover hammered three kills in quick succession to help Colby hit .387 and win 25–13. The second set featured more of the Mules' strategic play. Jordan Lee's service ace and a string of Jones and Brady Moseley conversions widened the gap out of the first rotation, and Grujic added another ace to keep Amherst out of system. Late in the frame, Hayley Beigh came on and delivered two timely kills around a Moseley finish as Colby closed 25–12. Amherst made its strongest push in the third, but Colby's block and serve steadied the set. Jones went on a momentum-turning ace, LJ Grant added a service ace of her own, and the Mules sealed the sweep with consecutive points at the net as Marjorie Johnson and Jones combined on the final block for 25–21.

Colby led its offense with Kendall Glover and Jones with nine kills apiece and Moseley with eight. Jones dominated the net with 7.0 total blocks while Johnson posted 3.0 and Alexa Peguero added 2.0. Grujic guided the attack with 18 assists and three aces, Lee supplied 14 assists and an ace, and Colby finished with an 8–3 edge from the service line. In the back row, Grant collected a team-high 15 digs, Reese Loyd added 14, and Moseley reached double figures with 10. The Mules concluded the afternoon ahead in every major category, including kills (39–24), assists (34–21), digs (58–55), aces (8–3), and total blocks (7–5).

Next week, Colby will travel to Williamstown, Mass., for another NESCAC showdown against Williams College on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
