Hartford, C.T. - The Colby College Field Hockey played away on Saturday against the Trinity Bantams. Colby found the back of the net first and held their lead to walk away with a 2-1 win over Trinity. The Mules now stand 2-6 overall in the NESCAC conference.
With both teams tied with one win in the NESCAC, the Mules and Bantams came out strong to start the game, each team seeing offensive opportunities in the first 15 minutes. Colby earned six shots in the first half and Trinity earned an even seven. However, the Mules capitalized first, as first-year
Abby Morrill scored her first goal of the season to give Colby a 1-0 lead going into the second half. Both teams came out strong in the second 30 minutes, but junior Bridgett Everett extended the lead just five minutes into the third quarter. As Colby fought to maintain their 2-0 lead, they battled hard both offensively and defensively. Although Trinity was able to score in the third quarter, first-year
Ginna Jacoby stood tall and held onto the lead for the Mules, tallying four saves over 60 minutes.Â
Assistant Coach
Hannah Keefe comments on today's game: "I am really proud of the group effort to come up with another NESCAC win, and implement the points we've been highlighting this week in practice.
Ginna Jacoby's relentless effort in goal kept us in the game for the entire 60 minutes." Senior captain
Lily Conway also reflects: "We knew winning this game was essential for post-season play which fueled our mentality in practice leading up to today. I felt that we connected passes all over the field, supported each other off ball, and created strong offensive opportunities that we were able to capitalize off of. It was overall a great team win and I'm looking forward to seeing this propel us into next week."
Colby is back in action on Monday at Thomas College at 6pm.
