Middlebury, Vt. — Volleyball defeated Middlebury, 3–1 (21–25, 25–15, 25–20, 25–21), on Saturday afternoon at Pepin Gymnasium to improve to 15–1 overall and 5–1 in the NESCAC extending the Mules' winning streak to six. After dropping the first set, Colby seized control with a dominant second frame with 20 kills on .486 hitting and never let go of that momentum, finishing the day with a .265 to .148 edge in attack percentage, advantages in kills (63–46), assists (57–43), digs (83–67), and blocks (10–5), and a 79.0–59.0 lead in total points.
Brady Moseley powered the attack with 17 kills, adding 16 digs for a double-double, while
LJ Grant supplied 13 kills and 14 digs and first-year
Kendall Glover posted 10 kills with a match-high six blocks.
Cyanne Jones added eight kills and four blocks, and first-year
Hayley Beigh delivered timely front-row defense with four blocks. Running a two-setter system,
Gabby Grujic directed the offense with 24 assists and three aces, and
Sydney DeProfio provided 19 assists and a key service ace during the third-set push; Jones chipped in four assists from the pin. From the back row, Grujic (13 digs) joined Moseley and Grant to anchor a steady floor defense. At the line, Colby tallied six aces—three from Grujic, plus one each from
Shayna Purow, Jones, and DeProfio.
After the Panthers edged the opener 25–21, the Mules reset behind first-ball side outs and key swings from Moseley, Grant, and Glover to take Set 2, 25–15. DeProfio's ace and a balanced distribution fueled a 25–20 decision in Set 3. In the fourth, Colby closed the match with timely blocks from Glover and Beigh and late kills from Moseley and Grant to secure a 25–21 finish.
Colby returns from fall break to host Tufts on Mayflower Hill on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the Margaret M. Crook Center.
