Colby faced a strong Wesleyan offense this Saturday, falling 24–7 in a game defined by field position and long possessions. The Cardinals controlled the ball for 38:42 and finished 4-for-4 in the red zone, while the Mules found most of their success on the ground and in the punt game before a late spark.
Colby opened with a 12-play march to the Wesleyan 39 but was forced to punt. The hosts answered with the first of two extended scoring drives, covering 80 yards in 14 plays and punching in one to bring the score to 7-0. Wesleyan's next lengthy series ended in a 34-yard field goal at 3:23 of the second to make it 10–0. The Mules nearly stole points before halftime after Eli Soehren pinned a punt out of bounds at the Wesleyan 2 with :59 left, but time ran out before Colby could cash in on the short field.
The Cardinals stretched the margin in the third with a nine-play, 64-yard drive capped by a 4-yard TD pass to extend the lead to 17–0. Colby's defense kept the Mules within reach. Joshua Iyonsi logged a first-half sack, and Drew Ramos forced a late fumble. Antone Moreis burst through the left side and sprinted 37 yards for Colby's lone touchdown (7:14), cutting the deficit to 17–7.
Moreis led the Mules with 72 rushing yards (12 carries), including the 37-yard score. Miles Drake added 38 yards on the ground. Jack Duffy, Cormac Wright, and Henry Emswiler collected Colby's receptions. Soehren was excellent in the field-position battle, averaging 45.3 yards on eight punts with three downed inside the 20 and two traveling 50-plus. Defensively, Jack Mullen, Ramos, and Iyonsi were active at the line, while Ameer White and Brody Rice limited explosive gains on the perimeter.
Wesleyan finished with 351 total yards (258 passing), led by quarterback Matt Fitzsimons (22-of-32, 258 yards, two TDs) and Kelly (12 receptions, 140 yards, TD). Colby totaled 110 yards, including 90 rushing, and went 5-for-13 on third down against a disciplined Cardinal front.
Colby now turns the page to a road test, traveling to Amherst next Saturday to face the Mammoths.
