Manchester, NH - The Colby College Mules (7-2-1) defeated the St. Anselm Hawks (5-5-1) by a score of 5-2 in their Friday night matchup. Though the start was sluggish, the Mules pulled through in the end.
The first frame of 2025 kicked off with a goal by
Donovan O'Neil at the 9:20 mark. O'Neil scored with assists from
Will Soloway and
Derek Hessinger. The Hawks were assessed a five-minute major penalty late in the first period for cross-checking.
Tyler Crist took advantage of the subsequent power play and scored at the 19:42 mark to give the Mules a 2-0 lead.
Connor Gallagher and
Will Molson provided assists.
The Mules were up 2-0 entering the second period. However, St. Anselm responded to the power play situation with a shorthanded goal early in the second frame. The Hawks scored again later in the second period to make the matchup tied at two goals each.
The Mules broke away in the third period. Crist scored his second goal of the game with 1:39 elapsed to take the lead in the contest while
Massimo Gentile provided an assist. Just three minutes later,
Alex Keskintepe scored on passes from Gallagher and
Nick Stapleton. Molson finalized the score of 5-2 with a goal at the 8:18 mark via assists from
Bobby Landry and Gallagher.
Edward Baliotti saved 33 shots for the Mules while Colby won 37 of the 70 faceoffs.
The Mules will return to action in Waterville on Monday, January 6 at 7:00PM when they will face the Nor'easters of the University of New England.
