Waterville, ME - The Colby College Mules (10-5-2, 5-5-1) lost to the Middlebury College Panthers (8-8-0, 4-6-0) by a score of 6-4 in their Saturday afternoon matchup.
Colby struck first to take a 1-0 lead. Three minutes into the contest,
Bobby Landry scored with assists by
Matthew MacDonald and
Connor Gallagher. Middlebury scored twice to take a one-goal lead. With four minutes remaining in the first period,
Dhillon Wilde and
Max O'Brien assisted
Nick Stapleton to tie the game at two goals apiece.
The energy of the second period matched that of the first. Middlebury scored two goals early in the period.
Wyatt Schmidek scored from a
Will Soloway assist at the 5:56 mark. Middlebury was penalized for hooking later in the period. Colby capitalized on the 5-on-4 advantage -
Connor Gallagher fired a slap shot from the blue line to equalize the game.
Will Molson and Soloway had assists on the play.
Middlebury opened the third period with another goal. At the 4:20 mark, they scored again to extend their lead to 6-4.
Cooper Rautenstrauch was in net for Colby, saving 20 shots. Colby won 33 of the 64 faceoffs.
The Mules will return to action on Saturday, February 1 at 7:00 PM for a matchup with the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in Brunswick, ME.
