Waterville, Maine - It was a beautiful day to be a Mule on the Men's Squash team this past Sunday against the Panthers of Middlebury College.
The first and second wave went heavily towards the Panthers, leaving the third wave score at 4-3 before the final three players went on court to compete. In order to win, the Mules needed at least two wins of the three to clinch the in conference victory.
Syed Kashef and Timo Radionov demonstrated their ability to win under pressure. The two players brought their matches to the fifth set as the crowd grew larger. Balancing the intensity, Kashef closed out his opponent with a diving cross court nick to secure the 4-4 tie. Leaving the Ukrainian Freshman, Radionov at the No. 3 position the deciding match. At 7-10 in the fifth and less than a minute after the crowd went wild for Kasef's victory, Radionov secured the win for the Mules. The crowd went wild. It was a tremendous moment for Colby squash.
The Colby Men's Squash team now stands at 4-3 on the season including two in conference. The Mules will compete against Wesleyan next Saturday for another NESCAC home competition.
