Hartford, CT - The Colby College Mules (8-4-2, 3-4-1) were defeated by the #11 Trinity College Bantams (10-3-1, 6-1-1) in their Saturday afternoon matchup by a score of 5-3.
The first period was action-packed. Trinity scored the first goal at the 4:40 mark.
Nick Stapleton was penalized for interference at the 12:28 mark. However,
Max Abene scored an unassisted and shorthanded goal to even the contest just under two minutes later. Trinity scored with thirty seconds left in the first to make the score 2-1.
The middle frame was somewhat tame compared to the other two. The Bantams scored the only goal of the frame with 11:08 elapsed. Trinity defenseman Theodore Griffin was penalized for cross-checking with under a minute to go in the second period.
Colby capitalized on the continuation of Griffin's penalty in the third frame. Jayden Mullins scored just 28 seconds into the third period from a
Will Soloway assist. Trinity extended their lead to 4-2 halfway into the third.
Max O'Brien scored with under two minutes left in the contest, but Trinity scored an empty-net goal to seal their 5-3 victory.
Cooper Rautenstrauch saved 40 shots over the course of the matchup, while Colby won 35 of the 65 faceoffs.
The Mules will return to action on Friday, January 24 when the Williams College Ephs visit the Jack Kelly Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
