Lake Placid, N.Y. - The Colby Alpine Ski Team closed the Saint Lawrence Carnival on Friday by placing two skiers in the top 5.
Carissa Cassidy and
Hannah Soria again led the Mules in Slalom, with Cassidy grabbing another fourth-place finish and Soria finishing in fifth.
Amidst superb conditions at Whiteface Mountain, the men's team skied to sixth place, and the women completed a third podium finish in third. The squad finished in fifth place as a team.
Easier course sets throughout the day left little margin for error or anything but full-attack skiing. After run one, Cassidy was in fifth place, and Soria was in sixth. For the men,
Harrison Digangi led the team in 12th, and
Topher Davenport was in 24th. All four were looking to move up on run two, and for the most part, they achieved just that.
Cassidy and Soria each moved in front of one skier on run two but could not overcome first-run deficits to move onto the podium. Still, the result marks Soria's best finish in Slalom at a college race and ties Cassidy's best finish from a weekend ago.
Davenport skied a strong second run and, with very close margins, found himself narrowly on the wrong side of the clock. Still, he moved up to 22nd place, a career-best finish. Digangi moved back one spot to end the day in 13th.
The Mules will have a week off for the 'bye week' before returning to action for four consecutive weekends of racing. The first of those four weekends will be at Smugglers Notch for the Saint Michael's Carnival.
