Colby Volleyball Takes Down UMFK and Thomas College with Back-to-Back Sweeps

Waterville, ME – Colby Volleyball hosted a doubleheader against the University of Maine at Fort Kent and Thomas College, continuing their strong momentum with two impressive victories. The Mules achieved clean sweeps in both matches, winning each 3-0 and improving their overall record to 12-1.

In the opening set against the University of Maine at Fort Kent, Colby came out strong, quickly building a commanding lead and finishing with a decisive 25-10 victory. Despite a few attack errors, the Mules maintained control, capitalizing on the Bengals' mistakes to secure the win. The second set saw Colby continue their dominance, winning 25-18. The team showcased strong service aces and a balanced attack that kept the pressure on the Bengals. Even though the visitors made a late push, Colby sealed the set with a final kill from second-year Jillian Roche. In the third set, Allison Rodriguez led the way with a service ace and multiple assists, setting up Emma Davis, Alexa Peguero, and Olivia Drayden for kills. The Mules wrapped up the match with a 25-11 victory completing the sweep. Davis led the Mules with 13 kills, followed by Drayden with seven kills, two aces, and two blocks. Gabby Grujic led in assists with 11, while Lily Harmon made her season debut, contributing eight assists.

In their second match, Colby continued their dominance with a sweep over Thomas College, winning the sets 25-11, 25-10, and 25-21. The Mules quickly established control in the first set, taking an early lead. A series of service aces from Reese Loyd, along with kills from Davis, Drayden, and Azariah Love, propelled Colby ahead. After a timeout from Thomas, Colby closed out the set with ease. In the second set, the Mules came out strong once again, delivering early kills and extending their lead. Thomas College attempted to rally but found overcoming Colby's consistent play challenging. The third set began with another strong start from the Mules, but the Terriers managed to close the gap and make a late push, and bring the score to 23-21. However, Colby sealed the match with two decisive kills from Davis, finishing 25-21. In this second game, the Mules showcased a strong performance once again from Davis with 13 kills while Loyd excelled at the service line, recording six aces. Rodriguez built the offense with 23 assists while defensively, Alli McKenney led the team with 19 digs.
