Waterville, ME- Following their impressive victory against Wesleyan, the Mules continued their dominant run for homecoming weekend with a doubleheader sweep at home, defeating Benedictine University (Ill.) and Emerson College. These victories extended Colby's winning streak and showcased their growing strength as they head into the season.
Colby vs. Benedictine University (25-16, 25-18, 25-19)
In the first match of the day, the Mules cruised to a 3-0 victory over Benedictine University, winning in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-19). Colby put on a balanced performance, tallying 48 kills with a team hitting percentage of .233, alongside 6 service aces and 9 blocks. Brady Moseley led the attack with 11 kills, followed by Cyanne Jones with 8 and LJ Grant with 6. Jones led in blocks with 2.0, while Sydney Bopp and Sarah Friedrichs contributed 1.0 block each. Jordan Lee orchestrated the offense with 16 assists, and Gabby Grujic added 14 assists. On defense, Moseley and Reese Loyd tied for the lead with 15 digs each, while Grant added 11 digs, helping the Mules control the match from start to finish.
Colby vs. Emerson College (22-25, 23-25, 25-13, 26-24, 15-9)
In a thrilling five-set battle against Emerson, Colby rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in dramatic fashion. After dropping the first two sets (22-25, 23-25), the Mules stormed back to take the next three (25-13, 26-24, 15-9), showing resilience and grit. Colby's offense came alive in the later sets, with the team finishing the match with 59 kills, 8 aces, and 9 blocks. Jones delivered a career-best performance, leading the Mules with 11 kills, while Grant and Moseley each chipped in 10 kills. Bopp was a standout from the service line with 2 aces, and her dominance at the net continued with a match-high 6.0 blocks.
Marjorie Johnson added 4.0 blocks, while Friedrichs contributed 3.0. Grujic ran the offense with 30 assists, and Lee added 22 assists. Defensively, Grant anchored the team with an incredible 33 digs, while Moseley and Loyd each contributed 29 digs, helping Colby overcome Emerson's early advantage and secure a hard-fought victory.
With these victories, Colby improved its overall record to 9-1 and set the stage for their upcoming matchups. The Mules will next travel to New Brunswick on Friday for their second NESCAC showdown against Bowdoin, looking to continue their impressive run in the conference.
