Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer Team notched another top-25 win with a dominant performance against the number 17 ranked Hartford Hawks from the Conference of New England.
After a disappointing defeat against Tufts a day earlier, Colby responded to deal the Hawks their first loss of the season. The Mules broke the game open in the 37th minute on a goal from first-year
Claire Walsh, her first collegiate goal. The game would stay at 1-0 until halftime, but the Mules had a number of strong chances that tested the Hawks' back line.
Hartford came out in the second half charging, scoring in just the 46th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Mules continued to play aggressively, and in the 71st minute, they were rewarded when
Charlotte Johnson scored on the feed from
Ella Caraluzzi. Colby would put the game on ice ten minutes later when
Madison Genser got her second goal of the season.
With the win, the Mules move to 4-1 (1-1 in NESCAC play). This marks their best start since 2012 when they went 5-1 to start the season. The schedule remains difficult for the Mules, with a crucial NESCAC game next weekend. On Saturday, the Mules will play Connecticut College at 11:00 AM, where will seek their first win against the Camels since 2012.
