Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Aidan Simmonds

Southern Maine No Problem as Men's Soccer Breeze by Huskies

Gorham, Maine - They say you can't control the weather but you can adjust your sails. After an unfitting end to a rivalry loss to Bowdoin last weekend, Colby responded with a near-dominant performance against Southern Maine. Two second-half goals take the Mules to 2-1 on the season heading into a tough stretch of games against NESCAC opponents.

The first half seemed like both teams were playing on a small-sided pitch as Colby constantly kept the pressure in Southern Maine's final third. The Mules tallied 11 shots and 8 corners, forcing 7 saves from a tired Husky goalkeeper. However, the bombardment of shots couldn't find the back of the net and kept the teams level heading into the break.

Colby became more clinical in the second half, tallying fewer chances but converting the ones they had. Senior midfielder Arkam Traore got the Mules off the mark with a first-time volley, floated in by Andrew Kirwan. Minutes later, a foul in Southern Maine's penalty area gave Colby a spot kick which was confidently converted by Mario Simoes–his third of the season. The Mules kept the pressure on, forcing two more saves, but couldn't grab a third.

In a game littered with fouls against an inferior team, Colby came away unscathed and prepared for a tough away game against Tufts on Saturday. Heading into the fourth and final matchup of their run of games away from home, leaving with a win would be extremely beneficial for the Mules.
