Waterville, ME - The Colby College Men's Tennis team lost 4-5 to Wesleyan in Colby's eighth NESCAC matchup of the year, on Sunday afternoon. The matchup was played outdoors at Messalonskee high school due to court being re-done on campus.
In doubles, Colby found a win at court 3 with stellar play from senior captain Joey Barrett and sophomore Adian Kwong. However, the mules fell at court 1 and 2, giving the cardinals a 2-1 lead going into singles.
In the first flight of singles matches, Colby split first sets with the cardinals. Barrett was the first to win his match, with a 6-4 6-2 victory. First year Paul Dandler then lost his match 6-7(5) 0-6 before Kwong defeated his opponent 7-6(5) 6-3 at court 6. At court 4, Henry lost his match in 3 sets, 4-6 7-6(6) 3-6. With two matches left, the Mules trailed 3-4 in total match score. Alapati fought back after a long first set breaker to win 6-7(11) 6-2 6-4, and the match was then tied 4-4. Under the lights, the match came down to Cohen who fought extremely hard to push his match to a third set tiebreaker. Cohen ended up falling 3-6 6-3 6-7(5).
Colby is back in action Saturday, April 27th against Williams.
