Women's Lacrosse Tops Conn. College in First Home Match-Up

Waterville, Maine - The 11th-ranked Colby Women's Lacrosse team took on NESCAC opponent Conn. College in their first home match-up of the season, defeating the Camels 17-9. The Mules' record improves to 2-0 in NESCAC and overall.

After Conn. started ahead 2-1 against Colby, the Mules quickly regained their footing to score five unanswered goals to bring the score at the end of the first quarter to 6-2. Colby continued that momentum into the second quarter, wrapping up the half with a 11-4 lead. Conn. fought hard, scoring three unanswered goals of their own, but Colby held on to their lead at the end of the third quarter 16-7. Defense for both teams had an impressive showing in the fourth quarter, resulting in only three total goals scored between both teams before the end of the game, leaving the Mules victorious at 17-9.

Conn. goalie Violette Nidds had an impressive showing at an almost 50% save rate, but wasn't strong enough to hold off Colby's diverse scorers: Ally Franz leading the way with four goals, five different players scored twice, and an additional three scoring once each. Tate Ban led the Mules in assists with four bringing her total points to five in the game, and Lydia Carr tallied four caused turnovers.

The Mules continue their season tomorrow at home in a non-conference match-up against Endicott College at 1:00 pm.
