Williamstown, Mass. - It has been 14 years since a Colby men's alpine skier finished on the podium at a carnival. That all changed on Friday as first-year Harrison Digangi skied to third amidst what often felt like gale-force winds in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.
In 2010, Vincent-Lebrun Fortin and Joshua Kernan skied onto the Williams Slalom podium. They would both go on to become All-Americans that season. Digangi will look to replicate their performance after two more weeks of racing at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Colorado.
Two technical sets kept the field on their toes in what was almost the inverse of the previous weekend's race at Dartmouth. Meagan Olsen added another top 10 GS result to her stellar senior season, finishing sixth. Lydia Riddell added a second top 10 to season in eighth, and Carissa Cassidy provided the third score in 32nd.
Adding to Digangi's result on the men's side was Nolan Sweeney, finishing the day in 11th, and Noah Riemenschneider in 16th.
Winds were supposed to calm overnight and give way to sunny skies for a day of Slalom action back at Jiminy on Saturday. On the team side of the race, the women's team ended in fourth on the day, and the men's team matched their stellar performance from the Harvard GS in second.
