Clinton, New York - The 2023/24 men's basketball season has come to an end. With a 58-89 loss to Hamilton, the Mules end their season 11-13 overall and 3-7 in the NESCAC, placing them ninth in the conference.
The first half started well for the Mules, hanging with Hamilton for most of the half. Although the Colonials went on runs, Colby kept the score within two or three possessions. Lucas Green and Marcos Montiel both kept the offense alive since comparatively, Hamilton was knocking down shots from inside and outside the arc. The Mules' deficit was as much as 15 but three-pointers from David Stewart and Lucas Green brought them within eight points to end the half down 30-38.
Coming out of the break it didn't get much better for Colby as the closest they could get was seven points. Liam O'Connell had a strong half, propelling him to 14 points and two steals in the game. The senior had a strong run of games to end the season and finished his final game of his Colby career on a high note. Fellow classmate Lucas Green had 18 points and three assists on the night, leading the team in both categories.
Ultimately, it was a tough way to end the year which once seemed so promising. At the moment it feels a bit contemptible to say the future looks bright since it takes away from all the effort put in this year, but with a young squad, the Mules can only get better.
