Hartford, Conn. – The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Trinity College in their second game of the weekend, powered by two third-period goals.
The Mules came out strong, out-shooting the Bantams 19-8 in the first period. Despite numerous offensive opportunities and power plays for both sides, neither team could find the back of the net. Entering the second period tied 0-0, Colby came out with four shots in the opening minute and 15 seconds. Trinity eventually got some offensive momentum, but Colby responded when
Georgia Pettygrove scored with just 1:24 remaining in the period, leveling the game at 1-1. Trinity started the third period with an aggressive offense, but goalie
Mandy Busky held firm, making eight key saves. Just 5:40 into the period,
Breanna Studley capitalized on a power play to give Colby a 2-1 edge. With a tight game, both teams picked up the pressure but
Molly Lefebvre added another goal for Colby with 4:29 to go in the game which was assisted by
Audrey Shirer and
Kate Pura. With four and a half minutes left to play, Colby held strong, defeating Trinity 3-2.
The Mules return to action after Winter Break on January 3rd, traveling to Castleton, Vermont, to face the Castleton Spartans.
