Colby Falls to Strong La Verne Team in Second Round NCAA Action

Cambridge, Mass. - The Colby College Volleyball team fell Friday to the University of La Verne in second round NCAA Division III action Friday three sets to one (24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 25-15). Colby's historic run comes to an end posting the programs best record since 2005 25-4).

In an even first set, the Mules and the Leopards traded leads the entire way.  With the score tied 15 times, Colby finally took control knotted at 24 as LJ Grant landed her fourth and fifth kills of the set to take the ever-important first frame.

La Verne came out of the gate hot in the second but the Mules hung tight halting any sort of space the Leopards tried to build.  Colby caught La Verne late, but with the set tied at 22, three straight points by La Verne evened the match at one set apiece.   The Leopards kept the momentum for the third set, passing the Mules at 16 points and pacing ahead of Colby to a 25-20 third set win.

La Verne started the fourth set taking 12 of the first 16 points, and despite an amazing and gritty effort by the Mules down the stretch, Colby's thrilling season ended at the hands of the Leopards.  Brady Moseley led the way for Colby with 17 kills, followed by Grant with 14.

From eyeing the conference playoffs from the outside four years ago to elevating to NESCAC Regular Season Champions this season, head coach Lindsay Johnson has led the Mules to 56 wins in the last three seasons and its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2005.  With no seniors on the roster, this chapter of the Mules continues to build with excitement and high hopes for years to come.
