Mules Fall Short Against Maine Maritime

Waterville, Maine. - Colby fell to the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy in a close match 60-54. The Mules now stand at 2-1 for the season. 

Colby started off against Maine Maritime with a solid defensive effort, holding the Mariners to 14 points in the first quarter while managing to push through the Mariner's own strong defense to a first quarter score of 14-11. Colby pushed back more offensively in the second quarter, scoring 14 of their own, but Maine Maritime kept up the pressure and pushed ahead with an additional 17.

Refreshed from the half, the Mules pushed back in the third quarter. Colby outscored the Mariners 14-9 on the quarter, but it wasn't quite enough. Maine Maritime surged again in the fourth quarter, scoring an additional 20 points to Colby's 15, clinching the victory at a final score of 60-54. 

Lydia Mordarski and Kate Olenik had strong showings with 13 points apiece. Mordarski's 3-point percentage of 42.9% and free throw percentage of 100% was a major contributor to the Mules' offense. Olenik's seven rebounds also contributed to her impressive showing. Amelia Hanscom had an impressive eight rebounds and nine points of her own. Chelsea Ibenegbu scored 11 points for Colby and racked up five steals. 

The Mules next face off on the road against #1 New York University in New York, N.Y. on Sunday, November 24, at 2pm.
