Middletown, Connecticut - In efforts to gain a bid into the NESCAC conference tournament, Colby traveled down to Wesleyan but ultimately fell short. The Mules lost 2-1 to the Cardinals after a late goal, dropping their record to 6-8 and 1-8 in NESCAC conference play.
Wesleyan came out strong, finding the net only a minute after the whistle. They continued to put pressure on Colby's goal throughout the half until shots from Charlie Scott and Jasper Paez turned the tide. The Mules went into the half down 1-0.
Coming out of the break, Colby continued to push for a goal. Oliver Daboo unleashed a shot, low, and at the goalie while Mario Simoes barely pushed his over the bar. However, the Mules' lucky break came in the 70th minute as Simoes found center-back, Jacob Sams, for the tying goal. Wesleyan responded quickly with a few shots of their own and unfortunately forced one past second-string goalie Gus Confalone.Â
The Mules are in action again this Tuesday hosting Bates at 5 pm at home. In their last game of the season, Colby hopes to end it on a high, especially against their in-state rivals.
